OPUS DEI

What is the meaning of Opus Dei? Opus Dei is Latin for the Work of God. In a spiritual sense, Opus Dei is a road of sanctification in daily work and in the fulfillment of the ordinary duties of a Christian. Opus Dei is a personal prelature of the Catholic Church. (A personal prelature is like a diocese with certain characteristics).

What is to sanctify work? Sanctifying work means to work with the spirit of Jesus Christ, to work competently and ethically, with the aim of loving God and serving others, making the Gospel present in all activities whether great or small.

In the eyes of God what matters is the love, the struggle that is put into work, not its human success.

Joining Opus Dei requires a supernatural vocation. It is a personal call from God to place one's whole life at his service.

The Message: Every baptized person is called to follow Jesus Christ, by living according to the Gospel and making it known to others.

The aim of Opus Dei is to contribute to that evangelizing mission of the Church, by promoting among Christians of all social classes a life fully consistent with their faith, in the middle of the ordinary circumstances of their lives and especially through the sanctification of their work.

When was Opus Dei founded? God our Lord showed Opus Dei to St. Josemaria Escriva on October 2, 1928. Click here to visit St. Josemaria Institute.
